When runners register for the event, they can identify the high school that they graduated from. The Alumni Challenge takes the results on race day and calculates a team score for each identified high school, based on the top fives age-graded scores for runners from each high school graduated from. An age-graded score is calculated based on the runners' performance for that distance, that day, in relation to the world record for that distance and their age and gender. Thus, the alumni team scores can be based on any gender or age of the runners that graduated from a given high school over the years.
